City Advises On Final Prep Before Storm

City Advises On Final Prep Before Storm With Hurricane Melissa approaching Bermuda, the City of Hamilton has issued updates on waste collection, office closures, and safety precautions. A spokesperson said, “With Hurricane Melissa expected to pass close to Bermuda on Thursday night into early Friday morning, the City of Hamilton is urging all businesses and residents to finalise storm preparations now. Waste Collection in the City “Please place trash out only at designated collection times [see below schedule]. “All City businesses must place their garbage out by 5:00 p.m. today [Thursday]. No garbage should be set out after this time. “There will be no residential garbage collection on Friday. The next residential garbage pick-up will take place on Saturday. “Business and restaurant collections in the City are expected to resume Friday afternoon, once conditions are deemed safe. “All waste should be placed securely inside bins [not loose bags] to prevent debris from blowing around. “Please secure your bins during storm conditions and bring them in from the sidewalk. “It is illegal to bring household trash from outside parishes into the City. Offenders risk prosecution. City Operations “City offices located at City Hall and the Works Depot on Laffan Street will be closed on Friday morning but will reopen at 1pm, in alignment with Government operations. “City parks, car parks, and public bathrooms will remain open until conditions require closure. Safety Reminders “The City is asking all businesses and residents to secure outdoor items, including wheelie bins, signage, planters, and loose furniture, which could become projectiles in strong winds. “The public is encouraged to monitor official updates from the Bermuda Weather Service and the Emergency Measures Organisation [EMO]. “For the latest City information, follow the City of Hamilton on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.”
