City Access New York 2025 Reach for the Stars Gala: Honoring Staten Island disability advocates

STATEN ISLAND, NY -- City Access New York will honor five leaders in disability advocacy at its annual Reach for the Stars Gala, scheduled for Dec. 4, 2025, at the Hilton Garden Inn on Staten Island. The “High Stakes Edition” of the gala will celebrate individuals whose work has advanced inclusion and empowerment for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout New York. This year’s event introduces the Ken Struve Lifetime Achievement Award, named for the organization’s founder. The inaugural recipient is Winifred “Wini” Schiff, CEO of the InterAgency Council of Developmental Disabilities Agencies, whose 40-year career has strengthened collaboration between service providers, families, and government partners across the state. Kimberly Hill Ridley, New York’s first-ever Chief Disability Officer, will receive the Architect of Change Award. Appointed by Governor Kathy Hochul in 2022, Ridley advises on policy affecting people with disabilities and serves as the state’s ADA Coordinator. Her work has helped make New York an “Employment First State” and model employer for people with disabilities. Two Staten Islanders will receive Community Commitment Awards: Gail Castellano, Senior Vice President at Valley Bank and community volunteer who has served on multiple local boards, and Dr. Gracelyn F. Santos, a dentist, journalist and civic leader who chairs the DEI Committee at the Staten Island Advance/SILive.com. Jared Baskin, Vice President of the City Access NY Self Advocacy Group, will receive the Self Advocate of the Year Award for his work challenging stigma and advancing inclusion. “The Reach for the Stars Gala is a celebration of those who make inclusion possible,” said Sophia Rossovsky, Executive Director. “Each of this year’s honorees embodies the values that define our mission—visionary leadership, compassionate service, and an unyielding belief that every individual deserves the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.” Proceeds from the event will support City Access New York’s programs for individuals with developmental disabilities and visual impairments. The nonprofit organization promotes access to education, employment, and community participation. For tickets or sponsorship information, visit the organization’s website.
