Citi Business Olympics: Dethroning us will take a lot of effort

GCB Bank has declared that it will take extraordinary effort from any competitor to unseat it as champion of the Citi Business Olympics, after winning the 2025 edition for the eighth consecutive time.

The bank emerged as the overall champion at this year’s competition, held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Eden Heights Sports Complex in Weija.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Monday, September 29, 2025, Gideon Fosu, the Manager for Payments at GCB, explained that the bank’s consistent dominance stems from its deliberate preparation and investment in sports.

“We have a sports committee that oversees all sporting activities for the year, and the Citi Business Olympics happens to be one of the biggest sporting events on our calendar. I am sure that it will take a lot of effort for another organisation to move us from being the eight-time champions of the Citi Business Olympics,” he said.

He revealed that the bank camps its athletes for several days ahead of the competition to prepare across multiple events — including unconventional ones like lime-and-spoon races.

“Before the games, we camp the guys for about four days. Morning and evening, they train even for activities like lime and spoon. It’s all about techniques, so we bring in people to teach them how to actively participate in the sporting disciplines,” he added.

Joseph Agyeman, GCB’s Manager for Special Projects, said the bank’s success also rests on teamwork and a strong sense of community.

“It’s about the mindset and the bond we share as a team. At GCB, we see ourselves as a big family. Anytime we want to participate in these events, we fall on our bigger family. We have athletes in their various rights trooping to participate on our behalf. That big family spirit is what keeps us going,” he said.

He added that the bank approaches the competition with seriousness and determination, which has enabled it to defend its championship title year after year.
