EXCLUSIVE: Oscar winner Christopher Walken, Ella Ballentine (The Monster) and Emmy winner Jane Curtin (3rd Rock From The Sun) have quietly shot comedy Back In Black in Toronto, Canada. Now wrapped, we can reveal a first look at the movie, which unfolds in a small American town “where death has become obsolete”. The synopsis continues: “The wellness craze has gone too far – with everyone juicing, meditating and bio-hacking their way to immortality. Funeral director Clyde (Walken) is going broke while the living stubbornly refuse to die. As he struggles to find a solution, his quiet, devoted granddaughter Sam decides to take matters into her own hands and the business of dying suddenly gets a new lease of life…” Embankment is launching world sales ahead of the American Film Market. VVS Films will distribute in Canada. Ron Murphy (Trailer Park Boys) directs from a script he co-wrote with Nick Torokvei. The film is produced by William Woods, Maddy Falle, Liz Levine and Ron Murphy. Executive producers are Taylor Thomson, Peter Thomson and Chris Henchy. Screen legend Walken, now 82, most recently starred in Dune: Part Two and series Severance and The Outlaws. Back In Black is only his second feature in the past five years. Hugo Grumbar, partner at Embankment Films, said: “Ron and Nick’s script is laugh-out-loud funny and razor-sharp in its take on modern life. Christopher Walken brings it all to life with his inimitable wit and gravitas – it’s a role only he could play.” “This film is an invitation for us to laugh at the worst parts of ourselves while celebrating the sweetness of our humanity,” added director Ron Murphy. “Audiences will laugh, squirm, and maybe even recognize a little of themselves in these characters – and that’s the joy of it.”
