Christopher Briney has joined the cast of “Hacks” Season 5, which is currently in production.
“Hacks” follows the dark mentorship between Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), an aging legendary comedian, and Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder), the Gen Z writer who works for her. The series premiered on HBO Max in 2021; Season 4 wrapped up earlier this year and earned Smart her fourth consecutive Emmy for the role and Einbinder her first.
Details about who Briney will play are not yet known, though Warner Bros. Discovery released a behind-the-scenes photo of his character standing next to Deborah with his arm around her waist. Both characters are grinning, and Briney’s shirt is mostly unbuttoned and revealing tattoos on his torso.
Briney is best known for starring as Conrad Fisher in “The Summer I Turned Pretty” on Amazon Prime Video. The young adult drama, based on the book series of the same name by Jenny Han, premiered in 2022 and concluded its third season in September, though a film is currently in development. Briney also played Aaron Samuel’s in Paramount’s 2024 “Mean Girls” movie musical. He is repped by Industry Entertainment, CESD, Peikoff & Mahan and Vision PR.
“Hacks” was created by Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky, who also serve as showrunners. Along with Smart, Einbinder and now Briney, the Season 5 cast of “Hacks” includes Downs, Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Mark Indelicato and Rose Abdoo. Executive producers include Downs and Aniello via their Paulilu banner, Statsky via First Thought Productions, Michael Schur via Fremulon, David Miner for 3 Arts Entertainment, Morgan Sackett, Joe Mande, Aisha Muharrar, Nate Young and Ashley Glazier. Universal Television is the studio.
