Avid readers usually love to collect various editions of their favorite books, but some fans are drawing the line when it comes to one popular series. Author Chloe Walsh reminded her Instagram followers on Tuesday, October 21, about the release of the new deluxe editions of the first two books in her beloved Boys of Tommen series, Binding 13 and Keeping 13, writing, “The new B13 and K13 covers are out!” In the caption, publisher Bloom Books included some additional information about the rerelease. “Same story, now with thicker paper, black spines and designed ombre edges with the couple’s names,” the caption read. “(Thicker paper = same width as the old indie editions! WOO!).” 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 While the new deluxe editions of Binding 13 and Keeping 13 came out on Tuesday, the other books in the series are available for preorder, with Saving 6 and Redeeming 6 set to be released on November 25 and Taming 7 and Releasing 10 scheduled to hit shelves on Feb. 10, 2026. “There’s no news on the next book [in the series], but all future releases will be adult and follow the new deluxe format: thicker paper, designed ombre edges. No more ombre spines,” the caption continued. “The current YA [young adult] editions will be going ‘out of print.’ This will vary by retailer, and as soon as a store ‘runs out’ of their stock, it will be permanently gone. After their YA stock runs out, it will only be available as the adult editions.” Walsh began independently publishing the Boys of Tommen series in 2018. Five years later, she announced in May 2023 that the romance novels had been acquired by Bloom Books for traditional publication in the U.S. The updated editions featured new covers, exclusive bonus content, new edits and special ombre spines for the first print run. Although some readers previously collected the indie editions of the first four books, they went out of print after the Bloom acquisition, so many fans started purchasing the Bloom versions in hopes that the entire series would match on their shelves. However, in July, Walsh and her publisher announced that the young adult versions printed by Bloom since 2023 would no longer be available, meaning future books in the series would not match the first six. Instead, Bloom would rerelease the novels in the adult genre with a fresh design. The change seemed to be due to the mature content of the series, which some considered inappropriate for the young adult genre. When the new adult editions of Binding 13 and Keeping 13 came out on Tuesday, fans flocked to the comments section of Walsh’s post to express their frustrations. “Cool!! I won’t be buying another whole set though,” one Instagram user replied. “Still can’t believe they just dropped the ombre [spines] like that — then again I guess that’s business.” Another fan pointed out the trepidation that stemmed from failing to collect all of the indie and young adult editions after printing of both ceased before the entire series was complete. “I think I’m going to wait until all of them are out so that I’m sure they are not going to be discontinued after having two sets that sadly were,” the fan wrote. Others acknowledged how good the new adult editions looked despite their refusal to purchase them. “They’re beautiful but I won’t be buying anymore!” one person commented, while another responded, “Still so mad about this but they’re pretty.” Amid the backlash, some fans appeared unfazed by the drama, emphasizing their excitement about the new editions. “Brb running to buy another version of the same book because I love it that much,” one individual wrote, while another added, “Can’t wait to add them to my shrine!” Meanwhile, a third Instagram user chimed in: “I’m so happy. Take my money.”
