The Chittoor district administration has been placed on high alert after an orange alert for the next three days was issued for the district due to the approaching cyclone Montha . Addressing a meeting with officials from Revenue, Irrigation, Panchayat Raj, Police, and APSPDCL wings, District Collector Sumit Kumar on Sunday directed all departments to remain vigilant and ensure immediate response to any rain-related emergencies. Reviewing preparedness measures, the Collector instructed all field staff to remain on duty and be available round-the-clock. He ordered the identification of vulnerable areas, old and dilapidated buildings, and safe shelters for evacuation, if needed. Officials were told to alert villagers through public addressal system about potential flooding in streams and canals. The Irrigation department was directed to closely monitor tanks and reservoirs nearing full capacity and reinforce weak bunds with sandbags, particularly in the eastern mandals. Agriculture and Animal Husbandry officials should guide farmers in protecting harvested crops and livestock. The District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) was instructed to stock essential medicines, deploy ANMs, and ASHA workers in flood-prone areas. The Revenue and police officials were told to set up control rooms by Monday morning. Superintendent of Police (SP) Tushar Dudi directed all the police stations prone to the impact of the cyclone to arrange caution boards near canals, bridges, and flood-prone stretches.
