Chipinge man stabs teenager during drinking spat

A 40-year-old Chipinge man has been sentenced to jail for trying to keel a teenager during a drinking spat, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) is reporting.

The Chipinge Magistrates’ Court sentenced 40-year-old Wonder Nxumalo to 5 years in prison for the attempted murder of a 19-year-old male.

The Court heard that on the 2nd of September, 2025, at around 10.00 PM, Nxumalo and the victim were drinking beer at Gochi-Gochi Business Centre in Chipinge.

It was then that an an argument ensued between the two when the victim informed patrons that the bar was about to close which was not well received by the offender.

The Court heard that on the 2nd of September, 2025, at around 10.00 PM, Nxumalo and the victim were drinking beer at Gochi-Gochi Business Centre in Chipinge.

It was then that an argument ensued between the two when the victim informed patrons that the bar was about to close, which was not well received by the offender.

During the altercation, Nzumalo stabbed the victim twice on his right arm and once on the right side of his neck with an okapi knife.

The victim sustained a deep cut on his neck, two deep cuts on his right arm where veins were severed, and a laceration on his left arm.

Nxumalo was initially sentenced to seven years in jail, but two years were suspended, leaving him to serve an effective five-year sentence.
