A woman from central China, married to a Saudi man, has faced cyberbullying after sharing her luxurious lifestyle and insights into local culture. Known online as “Saudi Meat Sister,” the 46-year-old influencer boasts 3 million followers and promotes her own fragrance brand on social media. Originally from Wuhan, she grew up in a military family that later became affluent through business ventures, as reported by mainland media outlet Takan. Her sister, a flight attendant for Qatar Airways, has settled in Qatar, prompting Meat Sister to frequently visit the Middle East to see her sister and brother-in-law. After studying law enforcement in college, Meat Sister worked at a police department and fire station before relocating to Shanghai to establish her own educational institutions. It was there that she met her husband, Da Long, a Saudi student nine years her junior. Upon arriving in Shanghai to pursue his studies, Da Long spoke no Chinese and had only a few friends. He spent much of his time in coffee shops and was introduced to Meat Sister through mutual friends. Meat Sister recalls being seriously ill twice, and during those challenging times, Da Long offered her warmth and support. After a year and a half of dating, the couple wed in secret, without informing their families. At that time, Meat Sister was unaware of Da Long’s family wealth and showed no interest in a bride price. When she moved to Saudi Arabia with her husband, she discovered that his father owned land, hotels, and shops in Riyadh and other cities. Despite the considerable wealth gap, she emphasised that Da Long’s family maintains a low-profile lifestyle. Da Long reportedly comes from a large family, which includes one older brother and five sisters. His family warmly embraced her, calling her “both beautiful and kind.” The couple have two children. On social media, Meat Sister shares glimpses of their opulent life, including a villa with eight living rooms, attended by several servants, drivers, and housekeepers. They also own a holiday home by the Red Sea, which serves as a winter retreat. Some netizens have accused Meat Sister of “bragging about wealth” and referred to her as the “kept woman” of a Saudi man. While Saudi Arabia permits polygamy under Islamic law, Da Long’s parents have made it clear that their family practises monogamy and do not pressure women to bear sons. Critics suggest that Meat Sister’s success stems solely from marrying into wealth, yet she defends her independence, asserting that she was financially self-sufficient long before meeting Da Long. She frequently shares her insights on Saudi culture, aiming to challenge stereotypes associated with the country. She has noted the progress in women’s status in the region, including improved access to education, the right to drive, and increased participation in the workforce. Additionally, she runs a fragrance brand called Revanna, inspired by Arab themes. One of her perfumes, priced at 298 yuan (US$40), has sold over 70,000 bottles on Douyin. One supporter remarked: “Meat Sister is a truly independent woman. She possesses business acumen and has achieved success through her own efforts.”
