A teenager was reportedly issued an eight-word threat before being doused in petrol and set on fire. Jacob Thompson, 19, continues his treatment in hospital after he suffered burns to about 32 per cent of his body following the alleged attack. He suffered third-degree burns, including to his face, torso, arms, back and legs, on October 13. In the moments leading up to the attack , police said Aaron Valette, 19, held up a plastic bottle with a clear liquid inside before he confronted Jacob. He is then alleged to have said: "If you come any closer I’ll burn you." Valette is said to have doused Jacob in the fluid before setting him on fire. Several bystanders extinguished the fire following the attack in Coonabarabran, in New South Wales, Australia. Jacob was later transported to a hospital for treatment. Police claim the incident was part of an "ongoing feud" between two families in the area. Valette has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a person with intent and affray. Mavis Chatfield, 45, has also been charged with affray - both were refused bail. Speaking to local outlet, The Daily Telegraph, Jacob's family said the attack left them "deeply traumatised." They said: "The vicious attack on Jacob has traumatised Jacob and his entire family who unfortunately witnessed the entire incident. "The past few weeks have been very challenging for Jacob, his mother, parents, grandparents, and siblings. Jacob has been experiencing severe pain and is currently being medicated to ease symptoms." The family said Jacob was initially on life support and has made small improvements, although he still has some issues with breathing. The family statement added: "Jacob has been very emotional, and he is currently trying to come to terms with his injuries. He remains positive despite what he has had to endure over the past two weeks." Jacob is being treated at Concord Hospital, with his family remaining by his side. The family has also fled the small town where they lived amid concerns for their safety. A GoFundMe has been organised to assist Jacob and his family. The statement on the fundraiser said: "Due to the severity of his injuries and the damage to his airways, Jacob was flown to Sydney and placed into an induced coma on life support. "This deeply traumatic incident was witnessed by his immediate family and partner, leaving physical and emotional scars that will take a lifetime to heal. "Jacob now faces a long and painful journey of ongoing medical treatment, rehabilitation, recovery, and ultimately, the need to relocate to a safe environment for his treatment and the entire family’s health and wellbeing."
