Chiefs’ Andy Reid Addresses Isaiah Pacheco Injury Status Before Bills

The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for a challenging battle with their AFC foes, the Buffalo Bills. While the Chiefs have started rolling since a rough start to their season, there is always the concern that injuries will hamper their progress, including the recent injury to Isiah Pacheco. Pacheco suffered the injury during "Monday Night Football," when he and the Kansas City Chiefs handled business against the Washington Commanders, 28-7. According to initial reports, Pacheco suffered an MCL sprain, and he didn't practice with the team this week. With their significant AFC battle looming, various Chiefs players and personnel appeared at a press conference on Wednesday, including coach Andy Reid. In addition to speaking about their upcoming opponents, he also commented on Pacheco's knee situation. “I don’t think so,” Reid said when asked if the injury is long-term, adding, “We’ll just see how he’s moving around, you know? But, tough kid. As of this writing, Pacheco is considered questionable for Sunday’s matchup with the Bills. During Wednesday's press conference, coach Reid joked someone would "have to cut his leg off" to stop Pacheco from wanting to compete, because "that's the way he's wired" as a football player. Pacheco had a difficult 2024 season, suffering a fractured fibula in Week 2. That sidelined him until Week 13, and while he contributed to the team's Super Bowl efforts, he was likely looking forward to being healthy for a full season. He certainly stepped up significantly as a rookie and sophomore back for the Chiefs, with 830 rushing yards in his debut season and 935 in 2023. The Chiefs also appeared in and won the Super Bowl both seasons. This season, the former Rutgers star leads the Chiefs with 329 rushing yards. Kansas City also has a solid backup in Kareem Hunt, and rookie Brashard Smith should Pacheco be unable to play for multiple games.
