On Chhath Puja, devotees offer water to the Sun God, or Surya Dev, while standing in waist-deep water. People usually head to the nearest ghat of any holy river (mostly Ganga River), and if there are no ghats, then they stand in water tanks kept inside communal spaces. This act is deeply spiritual and symbolises purity, humility and gratitude. During the setting sun, devotees offer arghya, and give their thanks to the deity for blessing their lives and families and pray for another good day tomorrow to deal with life's challenges. How To Perform Sandhya ArghyaDuring Sandhya Arghya, devotees face the setting Sun and offer water and milk using bamboo baskets known as soops.
