Schools in many parts of India are closed today for Chhath Puja. The festival is mainly celebrated in Bihar. Chhath Puja is an ancient Hindu festival dedicated to the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya. Devotees offer prayers to the rising and setting sun and observe a strict fast to seek blessings for good health and prosperity. The decision was approved by the Lieutenant Governor and confirmed by the General Administration Department (GAD). The move will allow families observing the festival to take part in the rituals without worrying about classes. (Representational Image) Bihar: In Bihar, Chhath Puja holds special importance. All schools and colleges across the state will stay closed till October 29. The extended break began earlier this month to include Diwali and Chhath Puja. The state government has allowed the long holiday so students and families can fully participate in the celebrations.(Representational Image/Getty) UP: Schools in Uttar Pradesh are expected to remain closed for Chhath Puja in districts such as Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and Prayagraj. However, an official notice from the state authorities is still awaited.Students are advised to check with their respective schools for the latest updates regarding the UP school holiday 2025.(Representational Image) West Bengal: In West Bengal, Chhath Puja is not widely celebrated, but schools are closed for Jagadhatri Puja, which falls around the same time. The festival, dedicated to Goddess Jagadhatri, symbolises strength and divine energy.
