Millcreek has a new mayor taking the city’s helm. City Council member Cheri Jackson was unanimously selected by her fellow council members this week to serve out the final two years of Mayor Jeff Silvestrini’s term. Silvestrini announced in September that he would retire for health reasons. Jackson will be sworn in Monday, according to a news release from the city. “I’ve had nine years of experience working with Cheri Jackson, and I know she has always been engaged and active not only as a council member for her district, but for the whole city,” Silvestrini said in a statement. “I have full confidence that Cheri is the best candidate to preserve the culture in City Hall to serve well the public, but also to continue to execute on the vision that we have outlined since incorporation.” Jackson, a graduate of Skyline High School, was born and raised in Millcreek before she attended Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University, obtaining degrees in psychology and public administration. She has served on the City Council since Millcreek’s incorporation in 2016. Four other candidates interviewed with the council for the mayoral position: M. Jamie Walker, M. Gardner Reid, Jacob Richardson and Curtis A. Larsen. The council will now go through a similar selection process to appoint Jackson’s replacement on the council, according to the city.
