Laken Snelling, 21, a former University of Kentucky STUNT team student, asked for medical help when she arrived at the Lexington Police Department after a newborn was found dead in her closet. On August 27, 2025, police were called to an off-campus home in Lexington, Kentucky, because someone found an unresponsive newborn wrapped in a towel inside a black trash bag. Snelling was located nearby and taken to police headquarters, where she requested to be checked out medically. She also said she placed cleaning supplies and the newborn into a black trash bag, then hid the baby in her closet. The Fayette County Coroner’s Office confirmed on August 27, 2025, that the baby was a boy. The cause of death is still under investigation, with a “preliminary autopsy” being inconclusive. Snelling is charged with three serious crimes: concealing the birth of an infant, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse. She pleaded not guilty in court. After posting a $100,000 bond, Snelling was released under house arrest and is staying with her parents in Tennessee. The 911 call came in around 10:34 a.m. on August 27, 2025. First responders found that the newborn had been dead for some hours, since the body was “cold to the touch.” Snelling was arrested on August 30, 2025, and officially booked on August 31. The University of Kentucky confirmed she has withdrawn from the school. She is no longer on the STUNT team. Her next court hearing date is September 26, 2025.
