About Moonship Chocolates
Exterior
Outside Moonship Chocolates is a hanging depiction of Maya’s Moonship, which resembles a hot air balloon. The “balloon” is full of stars, and more stars hang from the roof around the sculpture. A bronze ring around the balloon features the shop’s name.
A blue, crescent-moon-shaped basket is hanging below the balloon, with small figures of Captain Cacao at the wheel and Maya standing on the rigging.
A sign on the column outside the main entrance advertises:
Galactically good gourmet sweets.
From star to table: truffles, cookies, & cakes abound.
Gummies, sours & sweets sure to tend your taste buds out of this world!
Above the doors, a Captain Cacao sculpture sticks out of the window. This friendly bear wears a bicorn hat and has a star mark around one eye.
Interior
Behind Captain Cacao, on the interior side of the door, is a golden medallion depicting Maya in her moonship.
There are stars and filigree featuring a compass shape on the entryway columns.
The central merchandise display is inspired by the moonship. The golden shelves are the basket, with a crow’s nest above them. The balloon above is full of giant fluffy glowing stars (which, in story, are supposed to actually be marshmallows).
The balloon extends into the ceiling, where it is surrounded by more stars and moons. Captain Cacao sits in the crow’s nest with the ship’s wheel nearby.
The rest of the shop’s architecture is also ship-inspired, like the boat-shaped counter and the windows behind it.
Another sculpture of Captain Cacao is attached above the counter.
The counter features pink and mint green stripes with gold trim. Columns at the corners have a golden spiral around them. The store’s hanging lanterns are orbs held in gold cages.
The cash registers are housed behind faux wood podiums with pink trim and the same gold compass medallion design seen above the door.
Behind the counter is a display including Maya’s aviator-style costume, a telescope, luggage, a globe, and a ship’s wheel. This display was added after our initial tour, which is why you won’t see it in our other photos.
The walls are painted to look like starry skies. The gray tile floors are also adorned with stars, and the merchandise displays are bright blue. The displays built into the walls have gold compass medallions and pink back walls. There are faux wood columns standing between the shelves.
This set of three-doors-in-one is found in the corner. The largest door is labeled “Maya” and has a “Team Members Only” plaque on the wall next to it. A “Captain Cacao Only” sign is attached on the second smallest door.
The smallest door features the initials “M.L.” for Major Lolli, a sugar glider who befriended the duo and joined their team. She makes sure the moonship is kept in tip-top shape and is “very aggressive” in making sure everybody is safe. The doors each feature a crescent moon motif around their frosted porthole windows.
Props on top of the merchandise displays are appropriate for a traveler like Maya. Here is a translucent globe, black suitcase, and star sculpture.
On this shelf is a telescope, hourglass, lantern, binoculars, and other tools a star navigator might need.
In addition to sweets, this store sells a selection of merchandise. Items include Butterbeer-inspired souvenirs, the Toothless popcorn bucket, a Moonship bag, and of course the perpetually sold-out Captain Cacao plush.
In another corner is this glass display case full of traveling and baking supplies. On the top shelf is a map case and a map, plus unique compasses.
Some of the destinations labeled on the map are the Seven-Layer Belt, Crustulam Sprinkle, and Navis Bananas Nebula. They all seem to resemble sweets.
Speaking of sweets, the second shelf holds ingredients and a cookbook. The open pages display recipes for the Fantastic Floating Marshmallow (as seen in the moonship balloon) and Cacao’s Choco-Lava Sauce.
Another shelf has a shopping list of ingredients including cacao, sugar, vanilla, shooting sprinkles, and more essentials. Notes remind Maya to “Travel to Cinnamoon for the spiciest” and that the “Fluffiest (marshmallows) are hidden in S’mores System.”
Bags are labeled for raw cocoa, sugar, salt, and peanuts. There are small glass bowls of marshmallows and spices.
On the bottom shelf are curios like a crystal globe full of shiny liquid and a large gold-green gemstone.
A confectioner’s case is situated at the end of the counter, with more pastries under a glass case on top of the counter. A ship’s wheel adorns the end of the case. Guests can also make a custom candy bag.
