ChatGPT creator OpenAI has revealed ChatGPT Atlas, a new browser powered by its popular AI LLM. The browser is available now for macOS devices. OpenAI released a brief video that shows off the functionality of ChatGPT Atlas. The browser pops ChatGPT into a sidebar for users to ask it questions or give it commands while surfing the internet. We see a user ask for details about nearby hiking areas while on Vrbo, and another order items for a beach trip through Instacart. This is referred to as “Agent Mode,” a feature that allows ChatGPT to interact with websites. It’s currently locked behind the Plus, Pro, and Business subscription tiers. The ChatGPT Atlas website has additional information. Users will be able to control which information ChatGPT remembers, in order to dictate what information it deems relevant when retrieving inquiry results. Last year, a report alleged that OpenAI was working on a web search service to rival Google. ChatGPT Atlas looks like it’s trying to do exactly that.
