COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A well-known philanthropist who notably contributed to causes in South Carolina passed away earlier this month. Charlotte Lunsford Berry died Nov. 7 in Asheville, North Carolina, at the age of 94. Throughout her life, Berry served on numerous boards and chairs as well as gave to causes focusing on education, health, environmental and arts across South Carolina. She was awarded the Order of the Palmetto and was more recently awarded the President of the United States’ Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award. The Columbia Chamber marked Berry’s passing in a social media post on Monday. “In Columbia and beyond, Charlotte Berry’s contributions touched countless lives through her unwavering dedication to service and community-building,” the chamber’s post read. “Her example reminds us of the powerful difference one person can make through compassion, leadership, and a commitment to the greater good.” According to Inside Charity, funeral services were kept private at her request.
