Key Points Charlie Sheen jokingly wrote Denise Richards a $1 million birthday check, which she cashed. Sheen reflected, “You’re doing pretty good if you can accidentally give people a million bucks.” Richards says their relationship is now “good,” focused on co-parenting and peaceful family dynamics. When Charlie Sheen tried to pull a prank on Denise Richards, his ex-wife was the one who got the last laugh. “I wrote a check to Denise once for $1 million on her birthday, kind of as a joke, and she kept it not as a joke,” the Two and a Half Men alum, 60, recalled during the Tuesday, October 21, episode of Kevin Clancy’s “KFC Radio” podcast. “And then, like, a month later, [she] f–king cashed it.” Sheen could not remember whether he and Richards, 54, were still married when the incident occurred. Regardless of their relationship status at the time, he understood her motives. “Yeah, which makes it sting more?” he pondered. “But you know, if I’m on the other side of that, I’m probably cashing that check.” 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 Still, Sheen wished that Richards “could have let [him] know” that she was collecting the money ahead of time. “‘Hey, you sound like you’re driving somewhere,’” he quipped of his hypothetical conversation with Richards had she informed him of her plans. “‘Yeah, to the bank, actually!’” Looking back on the ordeal, Sheen chose to appreciate the bright side, noting, “But I guess there’s gratitude that there was enough money in that account for that check not to bounce.” Although Sheen never expected Richards to cash the $1 million check, he realized something positive about his financial state at the time. “You’re doing pretty good if you can accidentally give people a million bucks,” he said. Sheen and Richards were married from 2002 to 2006. The exes are parents of daughters Sami, 21, and Lola, 20, while Sheen also shares daughter Cassandra, 40, with ex Paula Profit and twin sons Bob and Max, 17, with ex-wife Brooke Mueller. Earlier this year, Richards opened up about her dynamic with Sheen nearly two decades after their divorce. “I’ve always been one that has, from the very beginning, tried to keep things cordial and peaceful and really harmonious with Charlie and I, [especially] when it was his wife [Mueller] and his ex-wife [me] and all the kids and everything,” she exclusively told Parade in March. “And it has not been easy by any means.” She continued: “There’s been a lot of ups and downs, but in the last two years, Brooke and I reconnected and she’s in a good place, so I think it’s important to maintain that and continue that. Also, the boys are the girls’ brothers, so I think it’s important for everyone as much as possible to be able to get along.”
