Charlie Kirk funeral has cops on high alert as security compared to 'Super Bowl levels'

Cops are on high alert ahead of the funeral of far-right political activist Charlie Kirk, saying the event seceurity will be like that seen at major events like the Super Bowl. A funeral for Kirk in Glendale, Arizona is set to take place on September 21. There will be a service at State Farm Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals NFL team and which has hosted three Super Bowls in 2008, 2015 and 2023. “We’ll be providing the same level of service that we provide for any other event,” said Police Administrator Jose Santiago . “We’ll have officers patrolling the area and monitoring everything from outside the stadium.” Kirk was a close friend and confidant of US President Donald Trump and the Orange Manbaby will be present at the service. It means cops will be working with the American leader’s Secret Service team, federal law enforcement and the Arizona Department of Public Safety. “We’re going to handle this as we would any other major event,” Santiago according to RadarOnline. He added: “We obviously had a very successful Super Bowl when it was here, and we handle major events when it comes to concerts, sporting events, and that’s basically how we’ll handle this as well…the same kind of ordeal for us.” The stadium has a capacity of over 63,000 and it will be a funeral open to the public. Attendees have still been asked to register with a website set up by Turning Point USA, the conservative nonprofit set up by Kirk which is one of the nation’s largest political organisations. It comes as former president Barack Obama has said the US is at “an inflection point” following the assassination of Kirk and that Trump has further divided the country rather than work to bring people together. “There are no ifs, ands or buts about it. The central premise of our democratic system is that we have to be able to disagree and have sometimes really contentious debates without resorting to violence,” Obama said during an event in Erie, Pennsylvania, hosted by the Jefferson Education Society. “And when it happens to some, but even if you think they’re, quote, unquote, on the other side of the argument, that’s a threat to all of us,” he said. “And we have to be clear and forthright in condemning them.” The man accused of assassinating Kirk has been charged with aggravated murder. The charge means Tyler Robinson, 22, could face the death penalty if convicted of killing Kirk last week. Announcing the charges, Utah County attorney Jeff Gray said: “The murder of Charlie Kirk is an American tragedy.” Kirk was gunned down on September 10 as he spoke to students at Utah Valley University and died soon after.
