CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A Charleston-area woman and a group of friends are trying to navigate getting back to the Lowcountry from Jamaica following Hurricane Melissa. Dacquin Curry and her friends flew to Jamaica for a wedding, where the hurricane hit the country on Tuesday. The celebration in paradise turned into a scary situation once Hurricane Melissa hit the island. She and the group experienced panic and caved-in ceilings, but were prepared with help from her resort’s staff. Curry says they are physically fine, but the hurricane has taken a mental toll on them. “You don’t have the comforts of home. Right, you’re in a place you never been before, but thankfully we’re in a place we felt secure enough where we had enough resources to survive the days after the storm,” Curry said. Curry and her travel group were supposed to fly back home on Saturday to avoid the hurricane, but because of flight cancellations, they’re hoping to return tomorrow or Sunday.
