Charity appeal to bring solace to bereaved parents receives £2,500 boost from law firm Myers & Co

The University Hospitals of North Midlands Charity is seeking to raise £50,000 to create the new space, which will serve as a place of solace for bereaved parents and will feature a statue of a forget-me-not flower at its heart.

Staff at Myers & Co chose the appeal as their charity of the year for the 12 months to May, and staged a series of themed fundraising events as well as holding raffles and cake bakes. The firm has now donated £2,500 towards the campaign.

Just over £17,000 has been raised in total so far towards the project.

Lisa Thomson, UHNM Charity director, said: “I would like to thank Myers & Co for choosing us as its charity of the year.

“It is fantastic to see a local business supporting UHNM, to help us reach our fundraising goal for the Pregnancy and Baby Loss Contemplation Area at Royal Stoke. The area will make a big difference to families and, with Myers & Co’s fundraising efforts, we are a step closer to reaching our target.”

The UHNM Charity is the dedicated charity of the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust. It raises money for state-of-the-art equipment, patient comfort enhancements and critical life-saving research.

Tim Newsome, managing director of Myers & Co, said: “We believe in supporting the local community and causes that make a positive and tangible difference in people’s lives.

“For the latest financial year, we asked staff to nominate and then vote for a local cause as our charity of the year.

“The UHNM Charity’s Pregnancy and Baby Loss Contemplation Area project will create a meaningful space which will be a sanctuary that brings comfort and peace to those who need it most, and we are honoured to play our part in it.

“Anyone who has been through the trauma of losing a little one will know how vital this contemplation area will be, and how proper support can make a real difference at a difficult time.”

It is a full-service practice with specialists in dispute resolution, corporate and commercial work, residential and commercial property, civil litigation, employment, family law and private client matters such as wills, legal powers of attorney, Court of Protection and legacy arrangements.
