Charging Gigaba is long overdue: Accountability Now

Civic organisation Accountability Now says the engagement with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) with former Public Enterprises Minister, Malusi Gigaba, before deciding the way forward does not inspire public confidence in the prosecuting body. Yesterday, the NPA said Gigaba was not arrested after reports that he had handed himself to the police in Pretoria. This after the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture had accused Gigaba of facilitating corrupt Gupta-linked business dealings with the government and being involved in state capture. Accountability Now Director, Advocate Paul Hoffman, says charging Gigaba is long overdue. “There was very adverse evidence against him at the Zondo Commission. Some of it came from people who were engaged as his drivers and that he would go there with an empty bag and got home with a bad full of money. His ex-wife also gave evidence that he was in the habit of getting fancy clothes and bags of money from the Guptas. Charging him is long overdue.” NPA takes Malusi Gigaba to court over Transnet case
