Charges Filed in Trubarevo Fire Case

Over the Trubarevo fire, the Interior Ministry has charged four people, 56-year-old M.D., 26-year-old L.D., 43-year-old V.M, and 59-year-old Z.S, and a legal entity based in Trubarevo with endangering the environment and nature with waste.

The first two, according to the police’s press-release, issued on Thursday, as co-offenders, violated waste management legislation and regulations concerning environmental protection, on multiple occasions, left, disposed, picked up, and transported one or multiple related shipments with waste materials and remains of electronic and electric equipment, waste batteries and car batteries and waste toners, as hazardous waste.

They would store, police pointed out, the waste at a cadastral parcel in Trubarevo and thus significantly damaged air and soil quality, that is, caused danger to the life and health of people of greater proportions.

The third person in question is a manager of a branch office that would act upon the prime suspect’s instructions and assign work tasks to employees during the electronic waste’s storing and processing, according to the Ministry.

When it comes to the fourth suspect, though there was a formal act for setting up employment at the legal entity, nonetheless took actions organizing the further disposal of the electronic waste, that is, as police added, he would receive, store, sort, and mechanically process also the electronic waste outside the facilities covered by the waste management permit that had been issued.

As a result of the 13 September fire, high pollution was caused, determined by through measuring activities by the State Environment Inspectorate and Army’s Atomic, Biological, and Chemical Defence Unit.

Several hours prior to the press-release by police, the Prosecutor’s Office had stated that a relevant prosecutor had submitted to a judge in the previous procedure a proposal to issue a detention measure against the prime suspect, while house arrest had been sought for the other three. Also on Thursday, when it comes to air quality in Trubarevo, the Environment Ministry said it was normal.
