Making moves at the NFL trade deadline will be a nearly requirement for the Los Angeles Charges this year. In an incredibly crowded AFC West, outside of the Las Vegas Raiders, the top three squads will probably be looking at their best opportunities to improve the roster. Making a deal for a former AFC West defender may make too much sense to ignore for Los Angeles. Chargers can improve interior defensive lineman group with trade for Shelby Harris Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Shelby Harris is a proven player entering his mid 30's. With that, his price tag won't be nearly as expensive as other trade options around the NFL. For the Bolts, their DL depth is lacking, and inside, Otito Ogbonnia was banged up in Week 7. Adding Harris could be an under the radar, but key, addition for the defense. Harris spent a bulk of his career with the Denver Broncos before moving around a bit in recent seasons. Defensive coordinator Jesse Minter has caught some flak in recent weeks, as the Chargers defense has taken a clear downturn since the first few weeks of the season. I discussed Harris' play this season and his potential role going forward if he's dealt ahead of the deadline with A to Z's own Brandon Little. "The Cleveland Browns have already made three trades this season, all well before the trade deadline. None of those moves were the team waving the white flag or signaling a willingness to sell ahead of the deadline. Still, the expectation is that the Browns will be sellers as the deadline approaches, given their struggles on offense and lack of a realistic playoff outlook. There are a few players the Browns could consider moving, and defensive tackle Shelby Harris might fit that mold better than anyone else on the roster.""Harris is in his 11th NFL season and remains a very effective rotational player along the defensive line. He has 11 tackles so far this year, played especially well against the Miami Dolphins in Week 7, and came up with a key blocked kick in the Week 3 win over the Green Bay Packers. However, the 34-year-old is set to become a free agent after the season, and the Browns are expected to soon get second-year defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. back from offseason knee surgery. Once Hall returns, his presence will likely cut into most of Harris’ snaps. A team in need of a reliable, plug-and-play interior lineman who won’t cost much could come calling. For Cleveland, the return likely wouldn’t be more than a late-round draft pick swap — but it would make sense given where the team currently stands." -- Brandon Little, A to Z Sports Cleveland Harris won't come in and be a star player. That should nearly never be the expectation for a veteran acquired at the deadline. That being said, the porous run defense for LA would get a boost, and their overall DL would improve with this sort of deal.
