Galway camogie will feature prominently in a new thrilling fly on the walls series on the All-Ireland senior camogie championsup, won in stirring fashion by the Tribeswomen in August. Camogie: Inside The Championship is a thrilling, moving two-part series that brings us to the heart of Gaelic Games like never before. With unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to Galway, Waterford, Tipperary, Kilkenny and Dublin, this series tells the inside story of this year’s championship, from pre-season preparation all the way to the All-Ireland final in August, as these counties try to wrest the O’Duffy Cup from hot favourites Cork. For the first time, this series covers an entire Senior Championship season from multiple angles as the favoured teams go from deep winter pre-season training through to the final in the height of summer. Taking in tactical team meetings, pre-match inspirational speeches, heart-breaking injuries, worrying concussions, skorts debates, and of course, high stakes games, the two-parter (broadcasting on November 6 and 13 ) introduces viewers to players and their lives all over the country, culminating in triumph and despair as they fight to become All Ireland Champions. With the support of the Camogie Association and generous contributions from teams, players and managers, the series is a deep immersion in their lives, covering stories on the pitch and away from the game. We hear of their backstories, understanding the sacrifices they have had to make to get to the top of their sport and the sacrifices they still make every day as amateur sports people who nonetheless dedicate their lives fully to their sport. We meet the support people, the coaches and the families who give so much to these women to help them reach their potential. As the series comes to a climax, teams fall away as the field narrows and there can be only one winner. This year, that team was Galway, who grew as a team throughout the year and ultimately felled their arch rivals Cork in an incredible final. With access to Galway manager, Cathal Murray, and his team, the series features captain Carrie Dolan, as well as Dervla Higgins, Ailish O’Reilly, Aine Keane and Shauna Healy. The series was Directed for RTÉ by Ross Whitaker (previously director of Katie and Beat The Lotto ) and produced by True Films and Kite Entertainment. It will be broadcast on RTE One at 10:15pm on November 6 and 13. The series was supported by RTE and Coimisiun na Mean.
