Celtics Predicted to Part Ways With Fan-Favorite

Celtics Predicted to Part Ways With Fan-Favorite

The Boston Celtics have already made several bold moves this offseason. They parted ways with Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis. They are also bracing for a season without Jayson Tatum.
Veteran big man Al Horford left for Golden State. That move ended an era in Boston’s frontcourt. Still, with the regular season approaching, there is a sense the Celtics are not finished.
As part of NBC Sports Boston’s Ramp to Camp series, analysts were asked to predict bold midseason headlines for the 2025–26 season. One prediction stood out. It suggested Boston could be forced to make a painful decision on a fan favorite.
Celtics Sharpshooter on the Move?
NBC Sports Boston’s Kayla Burton made her call. She predicted the Celtics will trade sharpshooter Sam Hauser.
“I am not going to say where because I have no idea. And as sad as this headline makes me feel, I just think they make a bold, somewhat sad move around the trade deadline and acquire a big man,” Burton said.
Hauser has been one of the Celtics’ most popular players since breaking into the rotation. But Burton’s prediction highlights the kind of decision the front office could face if the team needs more size.
Hauser’s Value Could Rise With Tatum Out
With Tatum sidelined, Hauser is set for more minutes. That bigger role could boost his trade value if he keeps shooting at an elite level.
The 27-year-old has hit 42% of his threes across the past three seasons. That makes him one of the league’s most efficient shooters. Teams in the playoff race always covet that skill at the deadline.
Boston’s Frontcourt Needs
Boston’s roster is still talented. But the center depth is thin. The rotation features Neemias Queta, Luka Garza, and Chris Boucher.
If the Celtics want to keep pace in the East, they may need a proven big man. Hauser’s shooting could make him the piece that unlocks such a move.
Trading Hauser Would Come at a Cost
A deal would not come without risk. Hauser is on one of the most team-friendly contracts in the league. His shooting is a major weapon for Boston’s offense.
Other than Anfernee Simons, Hauser is one of the most logical trade chips. But if he goes, others must step up. That could mean a leap from Baylor Scheierman. It could also mean progress from Jordan Walsh or a breakout from rookie Hugo Gonzalez.
The Celtics are already juggling injuries and roster turnover. Losing Hauser would only raise the degree of difficulty.
What’s Next for the Celtics
The Celtics have already shaken things up this summer. Another move midseason would not be a shock. If Burton’s prediction proves right, Hauser could be the casualty of a frontcourt upgrade.
For now, he stays in Boston. He remains one of the team’s most trusted shooters. And he is a player who could both help the Celtics win now and raise his trade value in the process.
