Jens Berthel Askou says his Motherwell side are looking to KO champions Celtic on Sunday, and is confident they have the players to do just that. Askou was delighted to see his side land a first Premiership win as they beat Aberdeen 2-0 at Fir Park on Saturday, adding to a 1-0 Pittodrie triumph in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals seven days earlier. The Dane hopes to welcome back some of his key players for the trip to Glasgow, but says they have more than a fighting chance, either way. Askou said: “It sets us up nicely. We are really excited and looking forward to that game. “We’re not just going there to frustrate Celtic and to tease them, but we’re going there to win. “I believe this team is capable of that, even though we know we’re going to play probably the toughest opponent, at the toughest place in the league. “But I have seen so much already from this team that it gives me a lot of confidence and belief that we will go there and have a good opportunity.” Askou added: “Hopefully we get one or two of the players who haven’t been available in the last couple of weeks with us – we’ll see that during next week – but hopefully that will give us another boost. “If not, these boys who are available right now have done a terrific job, in terms of producing good performances and getting points, while we’ve been missing some really important players for us. “No matter what, I’m really excited, and looking forward to that game.” Askou was happy with the win over Aberdeen and said: “I knew we would get a chance, because it was a team that was doing all the right things, in terms of trying to win. “I could see throughout the game that we were able to create chances that were causing them problems, and at the end up they had difficulties in keeping us away from their box. “You know that even with two or three minutes to go you will always get chances.” Askou added: “We aim to do better than we did last season and do something that will help this club move forward, and these players take the next step in their career. “I think we’ve started on the right foot, and hopefully we’ll keep moving, to get us to a place in May where everybody is proud and happy with what we’ve achieved.”
