DERMOT DESMOND won’t be in attendance at Celtic Park to witness the latest protests towards the Hoops board.
Celtic host Hibs in the Premiership at 3pm this afternoon and fans have already announced their plans to express their dismay with another silent protest.
But Celtic’s largest shareholder Desmond won’t be watching it all unfold in Glasgow as he has opted to take in all the action at the 2025 Ryder Cup in New York instead.
Desmond, 75, has been in the firing line with Celtic fans making their feelings loud and clear towards club chiefs after a disappointing summer.
Celtic fans were hoping to kick on in Europe this year after Brendan Rodgers‘ men set the standard in the Champions League last season.
The Hoops were just moments away from taking Bayern Munich to extra-time in the knockout round play-off – only for Alphonso Davies to step up with a stoppage time winner at the Allianz Arena.
Fans felt this campaign was their chance to take another leap and potentially go another stage further in Uefa‘s flagship competition.
But they were left frustrated by the lack of movement in the transfer window and their feelings were amplified when they crashed out of the Champions League at the first hurdle.
The Scottish champions failed to qualify for the competition after a shock exit to Kazakh outfit Kairat Almaty.
Supporters have pinned the blame on the board as they believe Rodgers wasn’t backed enough ahead of that crucial tie.
Since then a number of protests have been scheduled, with many waiting outside for the first 12 minutes of the recent away win over Kilmarnock before taking their seats.
There were banners and signs calling for change at Firhill as Celtic cruised into the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals following a 4-0 win over Partick Thistle.
Now fans have announced a three game silent protest, starting with the match against Hibs.
But Desmond won’t be there to experience it as he’s over in New York following the action at Bethpage Black with fellow business tycoon JP McManus
The pair, along with Limerick hurling manager John Kiely, followed the morning foursome pairing of Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood as they beat Collin Morikawa and Harris English 5&4.
