The Celebrity Traitors viewers were left blasting an “unfair” challenge during Wednesday night’s episode, after spotting an apparent problem. Claudia Winkleman’s murder mystery gameshow has proven to be an instant hit as she returned to Ardross Castle with a new batch of Faithfuls and Traitors and an A-list cast including Jonathan Ross , Sir Stephen Fry, Alan Carr , Cat Burns, Charlotte Church , Paloma Faith, Kate Garraway and Nick Mohammed. With just two episodes left, there have been some Bafta-worthy moments, including Celia Imrie’s fart during a challenge and Paloma Faith lying in a coffin after being murdered in plain sight. Last night, Jonathan Ross became the first Traitor banished, delivering an iconic exit line as he said: “I am now, and I have been all through the game completely faithful… to the Traitors!” Suspicions may now turn towards the two remaining Traitors, Alan and Cat, especially as they’re set to murder once again in plain sight with the magic words “Parting is such sweet sorrow”. Of the remaining Faithfuls, including Joe Marler and David Olusoga, Kate, Nick and Celia, one is exempt from murder after winning a shield during an earlier challenge. But fans are claiming it’s a “fix” and “unfair”. The contestants were tasked with crossing a wobbly bridge high above a ravine in the hope of winning money for their charities and a possible shield. After Alan squealed his way through, crying out, “My testicles, I feel like a winner and a eunuch,” Cat overcame her fear with some screams, and Joe debuted a new dance move as he worked his way across, each contestant waiting at the other end was able to put one player’s frame on a shield, saving them from murder. Alan went first, with his partner Kate choosing him to save, before Celia saved her partner Cat, Jonathan followed suit by saving Nick, and then David saved Joe. But fans spotted an issue with this, noting that whoever went last would have been the one saved just because it had to be done in order. One wrote: “Bit unfair that the last people get the shield.” Another said: “Bit unfair this challenge isn’t it as whoever crosses the bridge last will get the shield.. Pointless.” Someone else fumed: “Fix! why they letting joe get the shield.” Another echoed: “I wonder whether it was fixed that Joe would have the last walk across the bridge in order to get the shield.” Agreeing, one viewer wrote: “Joe totally fixed getting the shield, knowing all the bridge walkers before him got it. Otherwise, he would never have volunteered.” Another said: “Funny that Joe is doing the last walk across the bridge and won the shield. When he would have been voted out tonight.” “So the shield thing is just stupid then,” someone else wrote. "Can they stop just giving the shield to whoever crosses the bridge,” another said. One person echoed: “The only shield choice that matters is the last one so that whole crossing was irrelevant apart from the money.” Ahead of the series airing, Joe admitted: “I'm here to win it. As much as I love the show, I'm not here to just be like, what a great experience. I might think that after, grateful to have played whatever part I had in it. But as soon as that game begins, my game face is on.” The Celebrity Traitors continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
