Celebrity Traitors star Joe Marler breaks silence over 'heartbreaking' finale

Celebrity Traitors star Joe Marler revealed he was "heartbroken" as he declared love to star who "betrayed" him in the finale. On Thursday (November 6), viewers tuned in to watch the highly-anticipated finale of the BBC's first Celebrity Traitors. The final five famous faces walked the grounds of Ardross Castle for the last time, in the hopes of claiming the jackpot. As Cat Burns, Alan Carr, David Olusoga, Joe Marler and Nick Mohammed sat down for their breakfast, Claudia Winkleman strode in to announce their final mission. They were taken to a quaint train station, and as a steam train approached they were told there were keys they had to find in each carriage before unlocking the boxes containing money. With just minutes to spare, they completed the final mission meaning the winning jackpot reached an almighty £87,500. Traitor Cat was banished at the roundtable, leaving the remaining four to choose whether to end the game or try and banish another traitor. Unfortunately, Nick turned on Joe at the last minute and voted him to be banished - with everyone else in agreement, Joe sadly walked away from the prize pot. In a turn of events, traitor Alan remained undetected and thus he swept the entire amount for his chosen charity - Neuroblastoma UK. Speaking about finale, which was watched by an average of 11.1 million, with a peak of 12 million according to the broadcaster, Joe told BBC One’s Saturday Kitchen: "I was also expecting to win. I thought me and Nick, really, we’d nailed this one. "I was heartbroken. He didn’t stick to my plan. He went with his gut, which is a shame, but I still was so in love with him, because that little like dicky bow, his little face, the three little love hearts, he put on my name. "Although in that moment I was heartbroken. I was like, aww. I really enjoyed Nick. He’s fantastic." And then quickly it became apparent he was winging it too. "That sports mindset kicked in. I was like, well, if I’m going to be here, I might as well try and win. And just started putting them under the under the pump a little bit." According to the BBC, its debut episode of the BBC One spin-off is now the biggest unscripted title on broadcaster VOD (video-on-demand) ever. Joe added that Alan was "unbelievable, what a winner" as he recalled the dramatic final episode.
