Celebrity Traitors' Tom Daley reveals BBC bosses said 'no' to bold show request

Tom Daley has revealed he asked the Celebrity Traitors bosses to consider a bold change to the format after he was killed off. The Olympic diving champion was a contestant on the current series of the BBC show but was one of its earliest victims. He was killed off after coming to the attention of Traitors Alan Carr, Jonathan Ross and Cat Burns , who decided to 'murder' him as they thought he might be tricky to outwit in the game. Tom has now told The Guardian that he asked whether resurrecting people could be introduced into the game. "I think what they should have considered is a resurrection," he said. "Bringing someone back from the dead after, like, the first four murders." Asked if he suggested his idea to the producers, he replied: "Yes. They said no." In the show, host Claudia Winkleman selects the Traitors by walking around the roundtable as the contestants are blindfolded, tapping certain people on the back. Tom admitted that he had wanted to be a Traitor rather than a Faithful and was "annoyed" when it didn't happen. "Around that first roundtable, you’re either waiting to be touched or not wanting to be touched," he said. "It’s really intense. When I wasn’t a Traitor, I was annoyed. "You can think, ‘Just play the game and have fun and see where we get.’ But as an athlete, I like to be in control." Tom, 31, recently shared that his eldest son broke down in tears when he was killed off on the show. The sports star has two sons with his husband Dustin Lance Black - Robbie, who was born in 2018, and Phoenix, who was born in 2023. He said on The One Show last week: "I've been watching it with my husband and my oldest son. And what was really sad was when, like, I got, you know, murdered, he was like, he started crying 'Oh, my papa.' And I was like, 'Robbie, I'm here, you're fine.' "And then he was like, 'OK, because I wanted you to win.' And he's like, 'I hate the Traitors.'" Celebrity Traitors airs on BBC One.
