Celebrity Traitors finalist Alan Carr shared how he was rendered unable to "do anything" following a debilitating health condition last year. The popular presenter and comedian is one of five celebrities who have made it through to the inaugural finale of Celebrity Traitors , which airs tonight on the BBC. He will be joined by singer-songwriter Cat Burns, actor Nick Mohammed, former England rugby international Joe Marler and historian David Olusogo. Alan made the admission whilst speaking to singer Paloma Faith (and fellow Celebrity Traitors contestant) on her Mad, Sad and Bad podcast earlier this year, revealing how much the condition impacted him. When she enquired whether the 48 year old had any concerns about getting older, he replied: "I had sciatica last year and I couldn't do anything." However, whilst discussing the impact of his health struggle, the comedian characteristically managed to find humour in the situation: "When you're younger, you're so arrogant, you think people get old for a bet. You think 'oh look at that man, he's got a stick for a laugh'." He added that his recent bout of sciatica had 'knocked him for six'. According to the NHS , sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve, which extends from your lower back down to your feet, becomes irritated or compressed. It typically improves within a few weeks to several months, though it can persist for longer periods, reports Surrey Live . The condition "usually affects your bottom and the back of one leg, often including your foot and toes". Signs of the condition can include a sharp, burning sensation down the back of the leg, tingling, numbness and weakness. It is also understood that roughly 40% of the UK population will experience the condition at some stage in their lifetime. Alan has become a familiar face on our telly screens over the past two decades, but his television career first started to soar in 2007 when he hosted his own programme, Alan Carr's Celebrity Ding Dong, which was broadcast on Channel 4 until 2009. Following the conclusion of his first eponymous show, Alan bagged another, this time hosting the massively successful Alan Carr: Chatty Man from 2009 until 2016 after filming 16 series. Such was the success of the show, Alan was honoured with a BAFTA for Best Entertainment Performance in 2013. Catch Alan in the final of Celebrity Traitors tonight (Thursday, November 6) from 9pm to 10pm on BBC One.
