Carstay, a Vanlife Platform, Secures Funding from Startup Factory Led by Osamu Suzuki

Carstay, which operates a “Vanlife” platform combining campervans and overnight parking spots, announced on the 31st that it has raised approximately ¥50 million in a third-party allotment from Startup Factory (Startup Factory No. 1 Investment Business Limited Liability Partnership) as an addition to its pre-Series A round. The total amount raised, including loans from financial institutions, has reached approximately ¥530 million. Startup Factory is a fund for startups offering consumer-facing services, led by Osamu Suzuki, known as a broadcast writer. The company provides an integrated service that includes car sharing of campervans and outdoor vehicles, reservations for approximately 300 overnight parking spots nationwide, and a DIY and manufacturing support hub called “Mobi Lab.” The number of registered vehicles has reached approximately 500. A distinctive feature is the system that allows users to convert their own vans or used cars into campervans at about half the cost of ready-made products, creating a unique ecosystem that integrates sharing and manufacturing. They propose a new leisure experience that adds value to mobility, such as the launch of Japan’s first EV campervan. The funds raised will be allocated to strengthen video-based social media marketing, aiming to achieve 150,000 members and 100,000 YouTube subscribers by the end of 2026. Additionally, they plan to expand the production and sales structure of “Mobi Lab.” by focusing on hiring engineers and sales personnel. The company has raised funds from multiple angel investors and financial institutions to date, and plans to keep refining its product and strengthening its team in preparation for a Series A round.
