Carlsberg India has signed a memorandum of understanding with India’s Ministry of Food Processing Industries to invest Rs1,250 crore over the next three years to expand its manufacturing footprint across key states in one of the world’s fastest-growing beer markets.The investment plan includes the construction of a new greenfield brewery in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra, with an outlay of Rs500 crore. It also covers Rs400 crore for brownfield expansion at its existing facility in Hooghly, West Bengal, and Rs350 crore for ongoing expansion in Mysuru, Karnataka, which had been previously announced.“India is a priority growth market for Carlsberg Group. Our investments in Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Karnataka underline our long-term commitment to India’s future. These projects will expand our operational capacity, create meaningful employment, and generate excise revenues for the states,” said Nilesh Patel, Managing Director, Carlsberg India.India—a warm, tropical country with promising demographics and increasing affluence—remains one of the largest beer markets for global brewers.The Danish brewer’s India subsidiary said the plans will help unlock value across its supply chain, benefiting customers, suppliers, and logistics partners. Carlsberg India expects incremental procurement of Rs600 crore in raw and packaging materials over the next three years, spanning sectors such as malt, glass, cans, cardboard, and transport.Live EventsCarlsberg, headquartered in Copenhagen, entered the Indian market in 2007 and competes with local giants United Breweries and AB InBev in a highly regulated but growing beer sector.For the beer segment, India offers very attractive growth opportunities supported by demographics, with a growing young population and an estimated 800 million people of legal drinking age. Around 20 million people enter this group every year.
