Cardiff’s LEGO fans are in for a treat this week as the city’s brand-new Lego store prepares to open its doors on Thursday, September 18. The store, which has been a much-loved brand in St David’s for more than 15 years since its debut in 2013, has undergone a revamp to bring visitors an immersive and upgraded shopping experience. The original store closed its doors on September 14 and the new look Lego shop will still be on St David’s Grand Arcade, only a few doors down from its former home. The new-look store be bigger, will brighter, and more interactive with a host of new features including a ‘Pick and Build Wall’ – where fans can hand-select their own combination of LEGO bricks and elements. There’s also the ‘Build a Minifigure Tower’ – allowing visitors to design and create their very own personalised characters – exclusive Lego sets and products – including limited-edition items not available anywhere else. There will also be hands-on play stations and building challenges – free activities designed to spark creativity in children and adults alike – and unique Lego model displays – some of which will be inspired by Cardiff and local Welsh landmarks. Helen Morgan, Centre Director at St David’s Cardiff, has said: “Lego is a fun and popular brand at St David’s and we can’t wait to see its new, bigger and better store and iconic models. The revamped space will showcase more of its fantastic collections and interactive features as well as giving guests an even more engaging experience from the youngest builders to life-long collectors. While we love welcoming new brands to St David’s, it’s also important to keep our existing favourites fresh and exciting so there’s always something new for our guests to enjoy.” The relaunch comes during an exciting period of change for St David’s shopping centre, which has seen numerous amount of important openings in the past year. This includes JD Sports relocating from Queen Street to open a huge flagship branch within St David’s, attracting thousands of shoppers. And next month, beauty giant Sephora will also be making its long-awaited arrival, with its grand opening set for Thursday, October 23, 2025. The arrival of the revamped LEGO store is expected to draw significant crowds on opening day, as families and collectors alike look forward to exploring the new space.
