Rising Cardiff City Dylan Lawlor says he would have been “stupid” to consider a move away from the Bluebirds this summer amid rumoured interest in his services. Lawlor has arguably been the standout success story among a plethora of positives coming out of Cardiff City Stadium since the arrival of Brian Barry-Murphy. City sit top of League One and are unbeaten under the Irishman’s tenure as they prepare for a trip to Stockport County this weekend. Teenager Lawlor has just signed a new deal with the club and has been promoted to Craig Bellamy’s senior Wales squad, making his bow against Kazakhstan and even earning a man-of-the-match gong to go with it. When pressed over why he recommitted to the Bluebirds, he sounded an answer that will be music to fans’ ears. “The environment and the change of mindset and the positivity around the place and I’m playing every week so it’s stupid to even turn your head,” he said. “It’s a great club to be at at the minute, so why would you look elsewhere? “It’s so positive here, there’s plenty of opportunity for youngsters. I think that’s probably the biggest thing is, that there hasn’t been in the past, is the opportunity, and he’s come in, Brian, and he’s given everyone an opportunity. “So as a young player at the club, you’ve got to be so excited because the opportunity is there and you just have to keep working hard and hopefully it’ll come.” Lawlor declared in the same press conference that the Bluebirds are aiming to “annihilate” the division after their blistering start to the campaign. The 19-year-old has started every game and looks in line to face County tomorrow. “You’ve always got to have the belief that you can make a start like we have,” Lawlor said. “I think that stems from the manager and the coaching staff but also the players around you. “We’ve got the belief that we can go get promoted again and go and absolutely batter the league. “I think that’s the change of mindset that Brian has brought in — a belief like ‘why can’t we just go and annihilate the league and go and get promoted?’, because why not? We’ve got the quality in the room, so it’s about having that belief and producing the performances to do it.” Playing along side his mates, like academy products Ronan Kpakio, Joel Colwill and Cian Ashford, you can see why Lawlor would want to stay and push the club back to where it belongs. You don’t really see it at other clubs — to have eight or nine academy graduates in the side,” he said. “We’ve all grown up playing together and it gives you confidence. The whole squad is close-knit, it’s really positive. “There’s plenty of opportunity here for youngsters. It’s a great club to be at right now, so why would you look elsewhere?” *Follow all of our social channels to ensure you stay up to date with the latest Bluebirds news.
