It is all change at Cardiff Bay railway station and it’s not just the new tram system which will connect Cardiff Bay to Cardiff Central. There is going to be a new food hall opening too, promising four new traders, a bar and indoor and outdoor seating. Loft Co, the name behind brilliant foodie destinations like Goodsheds in Barry , Newport Market and Albert Hall in Swansea , is opening a new food hall at the station. Named Platform Food Hall, work is currently underway at the site. While the food traders are yet to be announced it has been confirmed that there’ll be four places to buy food from at the venue, with three situated in the food hall and one situated on the train platform. As with other Loft sites, Academy will provide the coffee and bar services. This new opening will accompany all the other changes coming to Cardiff Bay , including the new stadium. Loft said of their latest food hall project: “With all of the redevelopment taking place in this area, including Atlantic Wharf and the train station, we wanted to create a food hall to serve local residents, workers, commuters and tourists. “Being located on the platform of Cardiff Bay train station, we envision becoming both the first stop and the last destination for visitors making the trip to Cardiff Bay. “We are here to support the WMC and the new arena being built, encouraging even more people to visit the bay. “The redevelopment of the station and the addition of a second platform will only increase footfall, helping Platform become a hub for the area.” Platform will also be home to offices, with space currently available to rent for businesses. Talking about Platform, Simon Baston, director of Loft Co, said: “At Loft Co we are passionate about creating vibrant, sustainable spaces that bring communities together. “Platform Food Hall is about celebrating great food, supporting independent businesses, and providing a destination that complements the exciting redevelopment of Cardiff Bay. We see it as a key part of welcoming people into the area and giving them a reason to return time and again.”
