Caps get ready for upcoming season, hungry for a run at the Stanley Cup

The start of the NHL regular season is on the horizon.
The Washington Capitals are back on the ice for training camp, preparing for the upcoming season.
The Caps return a core group that was the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs a year ago.
This is also the final year of Alex Ovechkin’s contract. At this point, his future is unknown after this season.

“I don’t know. We’ll see how it goes,” Ovechkin told 7News Sports Director Scott Abraham. “I will let you know first.”
It seems like a lifetime ago since the Caps won their first and only Stanley Cup back in 2018.
The goal always remains the same. This group wants another Stanley Cup.
“As time goes on, you become hungrier and hungrier every year,” Caps defenseman John Carlson said. “I think there has never been a good year in my mind besides the year that we won. I think that would be the perfect year for me.”
Washington opens the new season at home on Wednesday, Oct. 8 against the Boston Bruins.
