They believe it’s high time they say goodbye. A death metal band — one formed mainly as satire — has disbanded after nearly 20 years together. Alas, Metal Injection is reporting that Cannabis Corpse — the Richmond, Virginia-based, cannabis-themed death metal group that likes to poke fun at the metal sphere — posted a very brief announcement on Facebook that it has called it quits. “Cannabis Corpse has officially disbanded,” the post reads. “Thanks to those of you who came out and supported. 2006-2025.” The caption to the post adds: “Keep smoking friends. Goodbye.” According to Lambgoat, the band was originally founded by bassist Philip “Landphil” Hall along with his brother Josh “HallHammer” Hall. And yes, their name takes inspiration from metal compadres Cannibal Corpse. With almost two decades under their belt, the band proudly boasts a total of six albums, many of which, of course, have cannabis-themed names such as “Blunted At Birth (2006)” and “Beneath Grow Lights Thou Shalt Rise (2011)” — as well as two EPs. The band also appears to have accumulated quite the fanbase: Their disbandment announcement drew an outpour of sadness tinged with thankfulness for the joy and entertainment Cannabis Corpse spread. “Well this sucks,” reads one comment. “Never got to see ya’ll. ‘Blunted at Birth’ I shall remain.” “19 years is a pretty good run,” points out another. “A lot of bands don’t even make it that long.” And writes one fan while publishing a photo dressed as a bundle of marijuana: “Thanks for letting me rock the nug that one time.”
