Candace Owens, a close friend of slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk, recently took to social media to express her distrust of Kash Patel, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), following a recent article in The New York Times. For the uninitiated, the article, dated October 28, 2025, reported that Patel was "alarmed" after Joe Kent, head of the National Counterterrorism Center, examined various FBI files to determine whether Tyler Robinson, Kirk's alleged assassin, received outside help from "a foreign power or another entity."Following this, Candace Owens took to her X account to share her opinion about the report, claiming that Kash Patel was "upset" that Joe Kent and Tulsi Gabbard, the director of national intelligence, were attempting to solve Kirk's murder. She further suggested that Patel wanted to be the "sole point person" on the investigation, writing:"This article is literally about how Kash Patel is upset that Joe Kent and Tulsi Gabbard are trying to do their jobs and solve the Charlie Kirk murder case. It’s like Kash Patel wants to be the sole point person on this—why? I do not trust him at all."According to The New York Times article, sources with knowledge about the situation told the publication that Kash Patel and other higher-ranking FBI officials believed Joe Kent was "overstepping" and "potentially interfering" with the FBI investigation. The article further claimed that Patel was "troubled" that Kent went through FBI files related to the case. Additionally, Patel was also allegedly worried that Kent's speculations of Robinson allegedly working with other people could be used by the defense to "raise reasonable doubt in the minds of jurors" during his trial.Meanwhile, Joe Kent's allies defended the head of the National Counterterrorism Center, saying that he was doing his due diligence to ensure Kirk's death was not tied to any "foreign or domestic groups." Furthermore, Joe Kent reportedly told officials that a low-ranking FBI agent provided him access to the files, which Kash Patel claimed to be unaware of. Kash Patel and Tulsi Gabbard released a joint statement to The Times when questioned about the situation, saying:“The F.B.I. and intelligence community under the direction of President Trump will leave no stone unturned in the investigation of the assassination of our friend, Charlie Kirk."Candace Owens shared text messages from Charlie Kirk predicting he "might get wiped out"Candace Owens, one of Charlie Kirk's closest friends, has been vocal about the conservative activist in the wake of his death.
