Candace Cameron Bure recalls 'times of deep brokenness' in her marriage

Candace Cameron Bure got candid about the “valleys of real struggle” that she and her husband, Valeri Bure, have experienced throughout their 29 years of marriage. The “Full House” alum told Us Weekly in an interview published Wednesday that her relationship with the former hockey star hasn’t always been “incredible” and “wonderful.” “There were times of deep brokenness that I felt,” she said, nothing that she and Valeri were able to build themselves “back up.” Candace credited her faith in God as the reason behind her and Valeri’s mended relationship, stating, “But God is in the restoration business … [God] loves to restore and make all things new, and he certainly has.” While the actress didn’t detail her and the retired athlete’s struggles, she explained that she has “always” struggled with “work and family life balance.” “I think so many women experience that,” she said. Candace, however, admitted that she still “wrestle[s] with brokenness” on some days. “I have experienced that,” she continued. “I mean, we all do. I don’t know that it’s [something] I feel daily, but there have been seasons of that in my life.” The “Fuller House” alum’s vulnerable interview comes as she promotes her forthcoming 30-day devotional, “Rise and Renew,” set for release on Nov. 11. Candace and Valeri wed in June 1996 and are the parents to three kids: Natasha, 27, Lev, 25, and Maksim, 23. In July, Candace opened up on her self-named podcast about the “really, really rough season” she went through in 2020, and how she and Valeri weren’t sure that their marriage was “gonna make it through.” At the time, the author explained that it wasn’t until their son Lev, who married his wife, Elliot Dunham, in January 2024, “preached” to them “a 45-minute sermon on marriage” that their perception changed. “[He] just had his Bible open on the couch and just talked about it,” she shared. “He said, ‘You know, I know I haven’t been married. I’m just a young kid. And so it’s probably hard to take marriage advice from someone this young [who] never experienced it before. But I don’t need to be married to know what the word of God says.'”
