Undergoing his 16th blood clot surgery since 2021, Deion Sanders did not take a week off. Just 4 days after surgery, the Colorado HC was by his team’s side when the Buffs took on Iowa State. His return turned out to be inspiring as the team came from behind after halftime. Everybody was in awe, praising Coach Prime, and even his ex-wife, who has been separated for almost three decades, continues to be a supporter. Deion Sanders and Carolyn Chambers maintain a strong co-parenting relationship for their children. In fact, Carolyn has been a constant presence, attending Buffs games with Deiondra and Deion Sanders Jr., wearing a ‘Prime’ merch T-shirt. This time, the support was different. Sanders recently showed up at UCHealth alongside a group of brave cancer survivors, all set to kick-start something new and exciting together. However, a bit of mystery still surrounds the venture. Coach Prime posted the announcement on Instagram, but what caught everyone’s notice was a like from his first wife. As stated, it’s not the first time Carolyn has come in support of her ex-husband. Her presence during Colorado’s clash with Georgia Tech spoke volumes as Sanders navigated the game action after his surgery. It was the first game that HC took over since his previous surgery in May. But his first wife and other family members were present to support the icon. She was enjoying the game from the lounge with full pride. Sanders Jr.’s girlfriend, Brittany Faye, posted the proof of it. She put it on her IG story, where Carolyne was loud and proud while cheering for her former husband’s team. Plus, she has been vocal about how they have been a strong co-parent to their kids. During Colorado’s bye week last year, Sanders visited Deiondra and his grandson Snow. He posted the moment on Instagram, thanking god for all his blessings. What did Carolyne do? She capitalized on that moment and posted an old picture of Sanders holding Deiondra when she was a baby, and the caption was pure gold. “BEING A DADDY’S GIRL IS KNOWING THAT DADDY ALWAYS HAS YOUR BACK; Carolyne wrote. “YOU MAY NOT SEE HIM, HEAR HIM, OR UNDERSTAND HIS OPERATION BEHIND THE SCENES… BUT HE’S THERE, PROTECTING YOU AND COVERING YOU IN PRAYER.” Now this is a kind of support that goes on and on, no matter how far the two are from each other. Deion Sanders and his comeback story During a routine CT scan in spring 2025, the Buffs coach was given two choices: 36 weeks of chemo or surgery. Coach Prime chose surgery over 36 weeks of chemo. He had his bladder removed and a new one built from his intestines. Sanders spoke openly about agonizing moments, including screaming on the bathroom floor due to excruciating pain. He even lost around 25 pounds during the ordeal. That’s not the only health crisis the 2x Super Bowl champion suffered from. Back in 2021, due series of vascular complications, doctors amputated two of his toes on his left leg, forcing him to miss three games that year. With an additional procedure in 2023. Over the last few months, Deion Sanders’ health issues already kept him away from the sidelines. In early October, Deion Sanders revealed he would undergo 4 hours of surgery to address recurring blood clot issues in his left leg. Whether it be cancer or the recurring blood clot issues, Coach Prime always fights hard. Plus, he has the support of the world, his family, and even his ex-wife, Carolyn Chambers, as he continues to be a positive influence with different awareness programs.
