A campaign on women’s health and wellness under the ‘Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar (SNSP) Abhiyan’ was launched here as part of a nation-wide drive on Wednesday.
The campaign intends to ensure comprehensive screenings for women’s health issues, including anaemia, hypertension, diabetes, cancer, and tuberculosis, and support immunisation efforts and nutritional programmes to reduce maternal and child mortality rates.
Inaugurating the district-level campaign, MP for Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar said that the drive was a significant step in promoting women’s health, through which, the overall state of the community, society, and the country can be improved.
The inauguration of the campaign was held at the SMT Hospital on JLB Road, with Mr. Yaduveer describing it as a major initiative in furthering the city’s tradition of celebrating women empowerment through Dasara.
“Mysuru has always recognised the role of women in nurturing family and strengthening society and the nation, and celebrates ‘Nari Shakti’ through Dasara. The SNSP Abhiyan gives a thrust to this tradition by focusing on women’s health as the foundation of community’s well-being,” he added.
The MP urged women to undergo health check-ups regularly, pointing out that in India, preventive screenings are often neglected. “Every woman should get tested at least once in six months. This drive provides the opportunity to make health monitoring a routine practice,” Mr. Yaduveer said.
The officials of the Department of Health and Family Welfare said that along with the objectives mentioned in the campaign, volunteers will also be enrolled for conducting blood donation camps and urged to register for organ donations, etc.
The campaign will be implemented at all levels in the district, including all Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres, and Taluk and District Hospitals.
The SNSP Abhiyan, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, on September 17, 2025, will run through the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations on October 2. The campaign will strengthen maternal and child health by providing antenatal care (ANC) check-ups, counselling, and distribution of Mother and Child Protection (MCP) cards to monitor health progress, the MP said.
In Mysuru, the programme will also involve nutrition awareness activities and counselling sessions at anganwadis to encourage preventive healthcare practices.
District Health Officer P.C. Kumaraswamy, medical and para-medical staff of SMT Hospital, and others were present.
