THE Jersey Estate Agents’ Association is campaigning for more members – who it is hoped would then become part of a national scheme that provides an independent and impartial service to help resolve disputes between property businesses and consumers. JEAA president John Quemard said that there are more than 50 estate agents in the Island, with just over 20 signed up to The Property Ombudsman Scheme. Mr Quemard explained that the JEAA is running a campaign encouraging local estate agents to become members of the Association – and in turn belong to TPOS. He continued: “It is a natural working relationship that the JEAA have with TPOS and all of our members are required to be part of this redress scheme. “I will continue reaching out to every registered estate agency business in Jersey and encourage them to become members of the JEAA.” Mr Quemard added: “We are working hard to provide much needed support and training to all estate agents to ensure the highest standards are met.” The policy manager of TPOS, Charlotte Mawson, recently visited Jersey to speak at a JEAA event. She said: “The JEAA are a professional body whom we are proud to work alongside and support.” Ms Mawson added: “Whilst it is not mandatory for local agents to belong to a redress scheme, I think it is commendable that the JEAA are acting responsibly and raising the standards of estate agents to the benefit of the people of Jersey.”
