Cammy Devlin told by Hearts what needs to happen next to land new contract as Derek McInnes reveals latest stance

Cammy Devlin has been told what needs to happen to secure his future beyond this summer at Hearts. The midfielder has been an ever-present in Derek McInnes’ side and has played every single minute in the stunning Premiership start. The Jambos have picked up 13 points from a possible 15 and put further misery at the door of Russell Martin and Rangers last weekend as serious fan pressure mounts on the Ibrox boss. Devlin has been a key player in that early season run, while he has also featured in the five Premier Sports Cup fixtures the Jambos played in before elimination on penalties in the last 16 against St Mirren. McInnes has made it clear he wants the Australia international – looking to go to the World Cup – to be part of his long-term vision at Tynecastle with his deal up next summer. His current agreement is believed to contain a small six-figure release clause and the Jambos want that excluded as part of a fresh contract. As things stand he would be free to discuss a pre-contract away from the club in January – but McInnes has reiterated his stance. Speaking to Edinburgh Evening News , he said: “Cammy knows how I feel. “I think his agent and the club have spoken, and Cammy and I have spoken. I told him: ‘I’d like you to be here longer, but if you want that to happen then you need to come towards us and get your agent to get in touch.’ “There has been some dialogue but no more than that at the minute. I’m hopeful with it. Cammy hasn’t said ‘no’. “He knows I want him, the club want him and he really enjoys it here. I think he has started the season really strongly.” Follow Record Sport on Twitter , Facebook and Instagram for all of the up-to-the minute breaking news, video and audio on the SPFL, the Scotland national team and beyond.
