Cambuslang Rangers boss Paul McColl admits his side made life difficult for themselves against Scone Thistle in the cup, but is pleased to get through. McColl’s side edged the game 3-2, with goals from Carlos Lyon and Brandon Carmouche, and a Darren Jarvis penalty, to set up a Scottish Communities Cup third round clash at home to West Calder on October 18. The Lanarkshire side were also able to hand a debut to new signing Connor McKenzie, who was signed last week from Glenvale. But McColl said: “It wasn’t a tough game, we made it hard for ourselves. It could have been a lot easier. We were 1-0 down at half-time and it could easily have been 4-1 or 5-1 to us, but it wasn’t. We had to go out in the second half and get a couple of goals, so fair play to the boys. “Connor McKenzie came on and did really well, ruffled them up, and changed the game, to be honest. “No disrespect to Scone Thistle, they were good, but it could easily have been 8-2 in the end. “Their goalie had a great day, saved a lot of shots from us that on other days would go in, and it should have been a wee bit more emphatic. “We’re happy to go through and we did play really well though, so there are no complaints. “If you had said before the game that we would win 3-2 I’d have taken it. “We have a home tie with West Calder in the next round, so I’m happy with that, and we’re through.” McColl was sent off after the final whistle, and says he was shown a ‘baffling’ second yellow card for dissent while talking to his players. Cambuslang, who are eighth in the West of Scotland Second Division, travel to 13th-placed Maybole on Saturday, looking to keep their run of form going. McColl said: “We’re up at Maybole on Saturday and I don’t know a lot about them, but we hope to go and get a win. It won’t be easy, but we’ll do our best.”
