Cam Skattebo was putting together a special rookie season for the New York Giants, as his energy and enthusiasm was bringing a feeling that the team hadn’t experienced in quite some time. Unfortunately on Sunday, his season ended after he suffered a devastating injury against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was trying to catch a pass over the middle, and he fell in a way where he dislocated his ankle. The injury forced him to remain in the Penn Presbyterian hospital in Philadelphia overnight. He had many visitors throughout the past 24 hours, but a surprising one was from Eagles Chief of Security Dom DiSandro who delivered pizza and cheesesteaks to the rookie. He was given a standing ovation from Eagles fans as he was carted off, as members of both teams made sure to give him fives as he left the field. The injury affected many players on the field, as fellow rookie Jaxson Dart was visibly emotional on the field right after it happened. Entering Week 8, Skattebo had been as valuable to the Giants as any player on the team. He ends his season with 410 rushing yards and five touchdowns, while also adding another 207 yards and two touchdowns. This isn’t the first devastating injury the Giants have had to deal with, as star receiver Malik Nabers tore his ACL in against the Los Angeles Chargers and is out for the year. The Eagles and Giants have one of the most intense rivalries in the NFL, and they split their season matchup as they played twice in a three-week span. While it is all business on the field, DiSandro’s gesture is a reminder about some of the positives that all sports can provide. There is a camaraderie that can’t be experienced anywhere except in sports. For the Giants, they will look to move on this week when they take on the San Francisco 49ers. Tyrone Tracy Jr. was the starter at the beginning of the season, and he will be the guy moving forward for the Giants. Even though he won’t be playing in the games, you can bet Skattebo will still do whatever he can to continue to give that lift and energy to the team and the franchise.
