Callum Osmand dreams of Celtic Europa League bow as new UEFA rule opens door to late Midtjylland call-up

Celtic are working around the clock to add Old Firm goal hero Callum Osmand to their Europa League squad. The Hoops jet out to Denmark later today ahead of Thursday's crunch clash with high-flying Midtjylland. And the champions are looking to take advantage of a new UEFA rule that allows clubs to replace a long-term injured outfield player. Celtic were dealt a bitter blow last month when Cameron Carter-Vickers was ruled out for up to five months with an Achilles tear. And newly introduced regulations from Europe's governing body grant them permission to replace a stricken crock with an unregistered player. Rising star Osmand - who exploded onto the scene with a Hampden goal on Sunday - was left out of Brendan Rodgers’ initial 24-man pool. But interim boss Martin O'Neill hopes to add the young striker to his European ranks in time for the flight to Denmark. And the talented Welsh teen insists he's ready to be unleashed for his Euro bow tomorrow night. He said: “I'll play. Whatever happens. I'm ready to play. "So if that can happen, it'll be a good thing for me. I'm always ready to perform.” Osmand is still buzzing after skyrocketing to stardom last week. The 19-year-old made his senior debut in the 4-0 win over Falkirk before netting a dream goal to dump Rangers out of the Premier Sports Cup. Osmand has had to wait patiently for his breakthrough after arriving in the summer from Fulham. But the youngster admits he's relishing playing under interim boss O'Neill. He said: “The first few conversations I had with him were all positive. He just gives me that reassurance. "He's heard good things, he knows I'm a good player. That's all the stuff that you need to hear as a player really. “It's just trust really. He says that he believes in me and he's going to keep pushing me. That's good.” Osmand was bombed out under former boss Rodgers and was playing with the club’s B team. But the confident frontman always knew his time would come. He said: "It is tough because you don't feel like you're in the squad. "The boys are all great, but it feels like you're not really a player as such. It feels like I'm not contributing. I just want to be helping the team. “It's tough, but in those moments you've just got to keep working and bide your time. In those moments you've got to face your friends when they say, ‘What's going on? What's happening?’ "You get those messages from your friends and your family saying, ‘When are we coming to watch you again?’ I reply, ‘Oh, I'm not playing yet.' “It's about patience, there's no need to rush anything. I knew that when I came in. "If you told me this time last year what I'd be doing now, I'd be very happy with where I'm at now. It's just patience.” Osmand never doubted his ability when he made the switch from London to Glasgow earlier in the summer. He added: “Obviously my targets were to be playing, to get myself in the squad. “I was not really thinking too much about starting because I was playing academy at Fulham. “I wasn't thinking, ‘I'm coming in, I want to play every game.’ "But I wanted to be around it and I'm glad the way it's going. I've just got to keep pushing and keep rising.”
