Students, individuals and organizations around the world will be taking action to clean up their environment. From beaches and parks to streets and backyards, people are taking part in litter picks and tidy-ups. Others are holding events to educate people about the value of our parks, forests, wetlands and gardens. We’ve asked participants to post their actions to social media, and we’ll be curating some of the best posts, as well as bringing you updates from the field. Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the fifth annual Call to Earth Day. CNN’s Call to Earth Day 2025 embraces the theme “Guard Your Green Space,” urging individuals and communities to take bold, collective action to protect the natural world that sustains us. Green spaces don’t just support biodiversity — they can improve mental health and reduce the urban heat island effect by up to 4 degrees Celsius (39 degrees Fahrenheit) in major cities. Research from the European Environment Agency shows that people living near green areas experience significantly better overall well-being. For Call to Earth Day, we’ve invited people around the world to take action by cleaning up the environment around them. CNN reporters will be visiting schools across the globe as they take part in clean ups, and renowned conservationists will be joining us on air to talk about their work. Stay with us as we bring you updates throughout the day.
